Xscape Chicago Concert reviews
Barenaked Ladies in Tunica
The meet and greet tickets we sprang for were well worth it. We were ushered backstage along the hall with 6-7 other couples and stood. Each guy came up, talked a bit, and signed the stuff we had brought. They also gave us a photo to get signed. Extremely nice, they were all, and at the end, the tour leaders set each couple up with the band and took photos with our phones and cameras.
For the floor, our tickets were, and we stood just one person away from the stage. I don't think the sound was as good as it was for the people in the seats, but I loved being that close. This is the first time we've seen the Xscape without Steven Page in the group, and it still was an amazing show. Kevin plays a bigger role, and his outstanding musicianship gets to shine brighter. Jim enthusiastically rocked the bass, and Tyler got a chance to get out from behind the drum kit (Ed filled in for him) and really entertain the crowd. Ed seemed a little more subdued than in other shows but was still wonderful. They played 3-4 songs from the new album (which I love), including "You Run Away," clearly about Steven. The rest of the night was upbeat, but this song was decidedly grave, to the point where I wondered if Ed's voice might break. They recovered quickly and did old favorites, ending with "Million Dollars." Mostly Tyler, singing and covering all parts of the stage, was the encore.
